For those who work in the NYC school system, today is Chancellor's Day, which used to be Brooklyn Queens Day seven years ago, and also known as Anniversary Day since 1829. Originally started as a celebration of the opening of Sunday schools in Brooklyn, students and teachers historically enjoyed parades and festivities. By 2006, all students enjoyed the extra day off and teachers were provided with professional development.
For over a decade, we have been a proud provider of professional development with at one time a record-breaking number of more than 100 workshops on this very day. This year, while my colleagues are facilitating or taking workshops at various locations, I wanted to offer some free urban professional (well really personal) development.
When you get out of work or if you had the luxury of a day off, I hope you have the chance to celebrate today by making music outdoors, playing amidst stone giants, and looking at Manhattan's famous buildings re-imagined. After all, the entire city is a classroom, playground, museum, and laboratory.
