Go Play

Today is Labor Day. A day to celebrate the work you do... and to take a day OFF from that work. it's also the unofficial end of summer; most pools will close after today. Many school-age children go back to school this week. But today-- today is a break. The close of one thing and the start of another.

In short, today is a day that begs you to go PLAY. To let loose. To have fun. To gather with your favorite people and fire up the grill. To recharge. To somehow shed the summer and prepare for the fall. Don't rob yourself of this gift.

What can you do today to honor a rest, a break, a day of play? Can you:

  • Go to the pool?
  • Go on a hike?
  • Go apple picking?
  • Go to the movies?
  • Read a magazine?
  • Take a bubble bath?
  • Play a round of tennis?
  • Get a massage?
  • Build a camp fire and roast s’mores?
  • Grill out some steaks and corn on the cob?
  • Go to a concert?
  • Hang out with your/family/neighborhood dog/cat/ferret/hamster/lizard/snake/fish?
  • Go on a drive with the windows down and the music loud?
  • Go for ice cream?
  • Call a friend to catch up?
  • Sing karaoke?
  • Have a dance party with all your favorite songs?
  • Have dessert for breakfast, and breakfast for dinner?
  • Flop on the couch and binge-watch your favorite tv show?
  • Order pizza and drink wine on the back porch?
  • Meet a friend for coffee?
  • Sit on a park bench?
  • Buy yourself something?
  • Re-organize your closet?
  • Go on a canoe trip?
  • Jump in puddles?
  • Get muddy?
  • Fly a kite?
  • Build sandcastles?
  • Go on a bike ride?
  • Go to a museum?
  • Play a round of mini golf?
  • Watch some baseball?
  • Lay on a hammock and read a book?
  • Sleep in?
  • Read a full newspaper over coffee?
  • Journal?
  • Initiate a neighborhood football game?
  • Try out a new recipe or cooking adventure?
  • Make popcorn and marathon your favorite movie trilogy?
  • Find a nice relaxing spot and meditate?
  • Go to a park or public space and people-watch?
  • Throw around a Frisbee?
  • Do ABSOLUTELY nothing.

How can you fall into play today?
