Usually, there are limitations to how you can use your sick/safe leave. However, it can be used during a public health emergency for the days of work that have been affected i.e. Monday/Wednesday of after school placement this week.
In general, part-time employees can earn up to 40 hours of sick leave in a calendar year once they have worked 80 hours in a calendar year with an organization. For every 30 hours worked, a part-time employee earns 1 hour of sick pay. You are not eligible to use sick pay until 120 days after your hire date, you can also see your official hire date via your paychex account.
To see how much sick leave you have accrued, you can check by looking at your Paychexflex account, and viewing your most recent check stub. Your available balance of sick hours will be available there. If you have not passed 120 days of employment with us, you will not see a sick pay balance. If you have questions about this reach out to Ravan.
To use your sick leave during this time, you can bill at the next timesheet submission. You can only bill for the amount of sick pay that you have accrued to make up for the days that you should have had work with us that were cancelled due to school closures.
Please review the new Emergency COVID-19 sick pay law passed in New York State, in response to this crisis. Click here to review the website to learn more details.
